Oncologist’s Corner: Conversations With Cancer Experts About Novel Delivery Options With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors

To participate in this activity, please:

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed the field of oncology across numerous tumor types over the last 10 to 15 years. Historically administered intravenously, ICIs may cause infusion-related reactions, require line access, and pose substantial staff and chair-time burdens. Recently, 2 ICIs (atezolizumab and nivolumab) were approved for subcutaneous administration, with additional ICIs in development. In this paired conversation activity, community oncologist Lucio Gordan, MD, and academic oncologist Saby George, MD, discuss the real-world burden related to ICI therapies administered intravenously and how subcutaneous formulations address these burdens. They also compare the clinical efficacy and safety profiles of subcutaneous and intravenous ICI products. The activity also highlights the importance and role of the interprofessional, multidisciplinary team in shared decision-making, treatment individualization, operationalization of subcutaneous ICIs, and workflow optimization.
