Hepatorenal syndrome with associated acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI) is a devastating disease, often fraught with numerous complications, whose successful management requires support from an interprofessional, multidisciplinary care team. This activity highlights key concepts in managing patients with HRS-AKI in the intensive care unit setting, provides an overview of the principles of interprofessional collaboration, and describes how care team members utilize a transactive memory system or ‘group mind’ that extends the cognitive capacity of any one team member.
