New Approaches to Assessing Functionality in MS:
Benchmarks for Patient Management
This program describes practical tools for performing assessments that serve as benchmarks for disease progression in MS.
1. Quantifying cognition and fatigue in MS patients
2. Tracking progressive neuromuscular disability (ambulation, strength, and spasticity)
3. Assessing workplace functionality and employability and helping MS patients stay on the job
Documenting the progression of disabilities is useful for monitoring the effectiveness of therapies, guiding rehabilitation strategies, suggesting appropriate accommodations for the home and workplace, and securing healthcare benefits.2. Tracking progressive neuromuscular disability (ambulation, strength, and spasticity)
3. Assessing workplace functionality and employability and helping MS patients stay on the job
Presentations by MS experts — Dr. George Kraft (chair), Francois Bethoux, Lauren Krupp, and Kurt Johnson — are drawn from an independent symposium held in conjunction with the American Association of Physician Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual Meeting in October 2009 in Austin, TX.
This activity was developed for physicians and nurses involved in the management of patients with MS.
Perfecting the Use of Neurotoxins in Facial Aesthetics... Decisions, Decisions
This activity is a video presentation of a recent independent symposium
held in conjunction with the American Society for Dermatological Surgery and American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology & Aesthetic Surgery
2009 Annual Meeting. The video includes presentations by experts in the field of facial aesthetics: Dr. Gary Monheit, Dr. Mitchel Goldman,
and Dr. Ava Shamban. It examines the scientific and clinical nuances of available neurotoxins in the US and offers participants keen insights
into achieving optimal results with these agents, based on an understanding of muscle kinesiology, differences in pharmacokinetics, and injection
techniques. Key recommendations and guidance on the use of neurotoxins in aesthetics from an international consensus conference are featured.
This activity was developed for dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and core
cosmetic physicians who use neurotoxins in facial cosmetic enhancements.
Perioral Volume Correction: The Global Approach — An e-Symposium
This activity features Dr. Kent Remington, a renowned expert
in aesthetic medicine discussing and demonstrating his Global Approach to facial aesthetics with a focus on volume correction in
the perioral regions. It includes a pictorial slide lecture presentation as well as a video demonstration of his advanced technique.
Participants in this activity will gain a greater clinical understanding of the principles and advanced techniques used to make the
Global Approach a state-of-the-art non-surgical procedure to volume correction of the all-important perioral region.
This activity was developed for healthcare professionals seeking
information regarding facial aesthetics and non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
Differentiating Neurotoxins in Aesthetic Medicine: An International Consensus Conference
In February 2009, a group of experts in the aesthetic
use of BoNTA from around the world came together to develop consensus statements on the use of the second formulation of
BoNTA in the United States — Dysport® (abobolulinumtoxinA).
The goal of this conference was to offer guidance and direction to clinicians interested in successfully
incorporating this agent into clinical practice. This was accomplished through discussions on the latest
information regarding the biologic effects of these agents (i.e., mechanism of action,
pharmacokinetics, field of effect, etc); a review of the available clinical data on the new formulation,
and a sharing of personal experiences with this agent in clinical practice.
This activity was developed for dermatologists and
plastic surgeons who use BoNTA in facial cosmetic enhancements.
Evolving Strategies for Chronic Idiopathic Thrombocytepenic Purpura
in the Veterans Health Administration System
In this on-demand webcast, three experts will discuss the
epidemiology, differential diagnosis, and disease course of ITP with insights into comorbidities and high-risk groups most often
seen in the VA. In addition to reviewing current guideline-based treatment strategies, panelists will provide data from clinical
trials about promising new therapies and their mechanisms of action as well as how these new options may fit into patient management.
Case studies will provide participants with the opportunity to participate in the educational process, as interactive questions are
posed to the audience and the answers are discussed by our panel.
Developed for physicians and other health care providers within
the Veterans Healthcare System who have an interest in the diagnosis and management of patients with chronic ITP.
