As the designated educational division within Eisenhower Medical Center, the primary role of the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower (Annenberg Center) is to fulfill the educational component of the Medical Center's mission: “Eisenhower Medical Center, a not-for-profit organization, exists to serve the changing health care needs of our region by providing excellence in patient care with supportive education and research.” In addition to serving the needs of the Eisenhower Medical Center's staff and the physicians of our region, the Annenberg Center's founding vision was to serve as a “distinguished forum for the examination of health care issues and the advancement of science and medicine.” This vision expands the scope of our program to include issues and audiences that are national, and at times international, in scope.
Purpose
The Annenberg Center provides high-quality, independent, evidence-based educational interventions that are designed to develop and/or maintain the competence of the physicians and other health care providers that we serve, improve their professional performance, and promote patient safety. We expect that these efforts will positively impact clinical outcomes among the patients these providers serve.
Content Areas
Educational activities provided by the Annenberg Center address developments in the basic sciences, translational and clinical medicine, and other topics that will assist our learners, within their scope of practice, in their efforts to provide quality health care services to their patients.
Target Audiences
The audiences for our educational activities include specialists, as appropriate to the topic, and primary care physicians.
We serve the needs of Eisenhower Medical Center physicians and the needs of physicians regionally and nationally. Selected activities address international audiences.
When appropriate, our audiences also include other licensed professionals who are members of the extended health care team.
Types of Activities
Our activities include live formats (regularly scheduled series; local, regional, and national courses and seminars; audioconferences), enduring materials (print and electronic media), and Internet-based activities. We select formats and design our instruction based upon the needs and preferences of our learners and the outcomes that we intend to produce.
Expected Outcomes
We expect that our learners will report greater confidence in their ability to manage the clinical conditions addressed by our activities and will express a commitment to change their current practice and incorporate more effective strategies when a change in practice is warranted. We expect that our learners will demonstrate competence in their use of targeted skills, and if evaluated in a clinical setting, we expect to see improvement in performance measures relevant to our educational interventions.
